Breastfeeding Support Person
In honor of this very special lady’s 92nd birthday coming up this next weekend, I would love for you to meet my Grandma Geneva. There is A LOT to say about her that could never be captured in one blog post. However, it struck me what an amazing breastfeeding support person she was in my life as I was raising babies. It just makes sense that she needs to be a part of my little Shine Lactation world.
In working with moms and babies, more often than not I find there isn’t always someone to support families and their decision to breastfeed their babies. It’s so interesting in the classes I have been a part of, to study the history of breastfeeding. In fact, generations ago, breastfeeding wasn’t nearly as “popular” as it is today.
My grandma was a pioneer in the breastfeeding world! She has many granddaughters, and I believe each one of us were able to breastfeed our children. I know this made her so happy as she was always very invested in how our newborns were eating. And oh was she excited when she would see bags of pumped milk in the freezer! She so often shared her own breastfeeding experiences with us as well.
Grandma used to be a pretty amazing Tupperware consultant, and I just have to think she would have been a pretty amazing lactation consultant too! We have been blessed to have her as our breastfeeding support for her many great-grandchildren.
Happy happy birthday to our Grandma! May you receive many, many birthday cards that you can save and re-read, and hopefully a pot of purple flowers too.
