Friday Feature: Videocare Follow-ups
This month has been fun implementing telehealth as additional lactation support for the families I serve. Telehealth or Videocare as I have named it when scheduling, is a way to interact live with me just as if I were sitting across from you in your home. Using my secure charting system and network, Milknotes, it has been seamless each time I have used this.
There are few times when Videocare is not the best choice for a visit which I will most certainly communicate with families as we discuss needs and concerns. Initial consultations could be Videocare where we determine if an in-home or office visit is necessary. In most cases, I can clearly observe a feeding, positioning, and latching while evaluating and talking through any changes and tweaking things as necessary. Obviously, pre-feed and post-feed weights will need to be done in-home or office. And for some families, they prefer to be “in-person” for each visit. I am happy to give families the option of type of care they prefer while offering suggestions for the optimum visit.
As the cold and flu season begins to rear its ugly head, Videocare undoubtedly will offer benefits to keeping families from exposure to outside sickness. Likewise, a definite benefit of access to care when winter weather forces staying at home as the safest option.
Videocare is also my platform of choice when providing Newborn Sleep Support to families and gathering information for sleeping and feeding plans. We can even do infant massage through Videocare! I am excited to offer this easy access for families during their lactation, postpartum, and sleep support journeys. And as with other lactation consulting visits, my partnership with The Lactation Network will cover Videocare as well. If you are pregnant and needing prenatal education? Another great use of Videoare! Check here to see if Videocare could be covered for FREE along your breastfeeding journey. {or scan the code below}
