Lolli’s Lesson: You’re NOT a Failure
Mamas. Read this closely…
You are not a failure. I am sure you have all heard it before. But it doesn’t really matter when what you have planned all along becomes something very different once your baby is born. First of all, I obviously want to help everyone be able to breastfeed their baby. I’m a lactation consultant—it’s my passion and I love helping you meet your feeding goals!I also know that it doesn’t always go as you expected. You may deliver prematurely, have a cesarean section, deal with pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, or postpartum depression. Any of these things may change the outcome of how you are feeding your baby. I want you to know that it is OK. If you choose from the beginning that bottlefeeding is the best choice for you—that is awesome! We are still here to support you in whatever way you need.
This is for the mom who starts out breastfeeding. And the mom who envisioned breastfeeding until the baby weans itself, or she turns a year old, or two years old. This is for the mom who had sore nipples and just could not recover from that trauma. This is for the mom who has to go back to work and pumping has become overwhelming. This is for the mom who dreads each time she puts her baby to breast because she can’t find any “me” time. This is for the mom who is diagnosed with cancer and her life-saving chemo drugs do not allow her to breastfeed any longer.
Any amount of breastfeeding is wonderful for your baby. You are not a failure. You were chosen for your baby and whether you breastfeed for one feeding or until kindergarten enrollment, you are doing what you need to do for your baby. And if you need me? I am here to help you navigate through your feeding journey with your baby.
