Friday Feature: Baby Decker

This past month I have had the best visits with new Shine clients! I am absolutely loving my “in-home” visits with you all and I just want to thank you for trusting me to come to your home. There is much value in meeting a family for a consultation in their own environment, especially in the early days of breastfeeding.

These early newborn days and weeks are the perfect time to be seen by a lactation consultant. Even if things are going well, like they are for so many of my clients, it is reassuring to know that breastfeeding is off to a great start!

I knew right away from my communication with Baylee that they were on their way to becoming a well established breastfeeding duo! What was my first clue? It was this response when I asked about scheduling a time to meet…

“We are feeding on demand, so his schedule is unpredictable right now”

This was music to my Lactation Consultant’s ears! ON DEMAND–yes! UNPREDICTABLE–yes! Because newborn’s feedings are “on demand” and “unpredictable” I hold our scheduled home visits very loosely and plan for flexibility when setting our meeting time, knowing we can adjust to baby’s needs.
